This week was dedicated to look development. My team got together and traveled to Tybee Island in order to shoot an HDR of the sunrise. Lucky for us, the weather was perfect and the sky was cloudless.

While we were there, I also took a couple reference photos of the sunlight interacting with the glass of the bottle to be used later down the pipeline.

My focus was primarily on modeling our perfume bottle.

Thanks to Professor Bridget Gaynor, I had a physical bottle to reference as I worked. It was especially useful as I addressed the beveled edges of the glass, along with the lid and nozzle. Overall, I am happy with the result, but I am ready to make any necessary changes if need be.

Moving on, I started on the shader for our sandalwood branches. Looking at reference images, sandalwood tends to have a red-orange hue to the bark with dark brown veining.

I like the version I came up with, although I believe it could use more work. The surface reads as plastic to me, which I believe could be altered by tweaking the roughness. I would also like to experiment more with the balance and contrast of the dark grooves, as I find the edges too stark against the rest of the material.

Question for myself and my team this week:

  • During the end card, will the flowers and branches bordering the frame be in or out of focus?

Personal goals for this week:

  • make adjustments to the wood shader

  • model sandalwood branches
